The MUHC Foundation and the Lachine Hospital Foundation continue dreaming big together
The Dream Big: Lachine Hospital campaign has raised over $2.8M in support of the Lachine Hospital.
Montreal, August 30, 2023—The Lachine Hospital is an important medical centre for the entire West Island community. Since integrating with the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Foundation in January 2022, $2.8 million and counting has been raised for state-of-the-art equipment that will enhance the renovated Lachine Hospital. The $5 million Dream Big: Lachine Hospital fundraising campaign is ensuring staff have access to the latest medical equipment to provide excellence in health care.
“I think it’s important that hospitals have strong philanthropic communities behind them. Thanks to the support of our donors, we have a whole slate of equipment that will be financed with the funds raised. It’s going to ensure our community receives even better health services, improve comfort for patients and provide a better work environment for employees.”
—Jacques Filion, Chair, Lachine Hospital Foundation
Early in the campaign, loyal supporter Fondation Luc Maurice generously donated $100,000. Mr. Maurice is the founder and executive president of Le Groupe Maurice, known across Quebec for the development and management of seniors’ residences. Many of the individuals living in Le Groupe Maurice’s residences rely on care from the Lachine Hospital, and this inspired Fondation Luc Maurice’s generous gift.
“We’re so grateful to Fondation Luc Maurice and our many generous donors for helping us build a state-of-the-art 21st century hospital in the West Island. Together, we will have a great impact on health care.”
—François Vaqué, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Citoyen; Dream Big: Lachine Hospital campaign co-chair
Campaign co-chair Peter Pomponio also gave a generous $100,000 gift to the campaign. A West Island resident and president and owner of Assante Dorval, he is giving back to ensure his family, friends and colleagues have access to world-class health care.
“My family decided to focus its giving to have a greater impact, and we chose to support education and health care. I accepted the role of co-chair and donated because the Lachine Hospital serves my community. It serves my family and the many people I employ, and I am so proud to give back.”

The $210 million renovation and expansion of the Lachine Hospital, which broke ground last fall, has plans for a new emergency room, state-of-the-art surgical suites, a restful palliative care unit and more. The Dream Big: Lachine Hospital campaign will complement the renovation by providing equipment not covered by governmental funding that will enhance the health and comfort of its patients. A Snoezelen multi-sensory room in the palliative care unit will provide a relaxing and stimulating space that can calm anxieties and evoke delight. A therapeutic bath will ease pain and promote healthy circulation. Comforting family rooms will provide a space for loved ones to reflect and recharge. Coupled with 60 new single-patient rooms, the Lachine Hospital will be better equipped than ever before to care for the people of the West Island.
“To me, there’s nothing more important than the health of the people you love. When someone is sick and they go to the hospital, you want them to have the best care possible. The Dream Big: Lachine Hospital campaign is ensuring our community receives it.”
—Maja Vodanovic, Lachine Borough Mayor; Dream Big: Lachine Hospital campaign co-chair
The fundraising campaign is co-chaired by four distinguished members of the West Island community: Hélène V. Gagnon, Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President, Stakeholder Engagement, CAE; François Vaqué, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Citoyen; Maya Vodanovic, Lachine Borough Mayor; and Peter Pomponio, President/Owner Assante Dorval and Managing Director, Assante Quebec.
“It’s a common misconception that health care and hospitals are fully funded by the government. Though the government provides everything a hospital needs to operate, the Dream Big: Lachine Hospital campaign is about helping the Lachine Hospital to go beyond what is adequate. We are ensuring our talented professionals have access to cutting-edge technology and equipment that will help them provide the best patient care.”

Together, we are already making great strides toward bringing a new, state-of-the-art community hospital to the West Island.
“Walking the Lachine Hospital’s halls, it’s easy to see that the staff love where they work. The expanded, upgraded space is long-awaited, and we are going to ensure those new spaces are equipped with everything the hospital’s outstanding staff need. Thank you to the West Island community for taking ownership of the Lachine Hospital’s revitalization. We look forward to many more milestones in the near future.”
—Harris Poulis, Interim-President and CEO, MUHC Foundation
