Welcome Dr. Pierre Gfeller— the new MUHC President and Executive Director
We are happy and honored to announce that our new President and Executive Director Dr. Pierre Gfeller has assumed his position as of today at the MUHC.
“The MUHC has a proud tradition of excellence, and I am excited about joining this world-class institution,” says Dr. Gfeller, who has 37 years of experience in the health and social services network. “Over the next several months my intention is to consult broadly and work with our patients and their families, the Board and the management team as well as the physicians, nurses, professionals and other hospital staff on establishing together our priorities and our game plan. Together, we will set a path forward that builds on our strengths, stresses innovation and ensures Quebecers continue to benefit from leading-edge care.”
In Dr. Gfeller’s previous positions, he worked at breaking down barriers within healthcare institutions and uniting stakeholders behind a common vision, strategy and action plan.
“Dr. Gfeller is a graduate of the McGill Faculty of Medicine and understands our culture and our values and shares our focus on providing outstanding care for and with patients,” says Peter Kruyt, chair of the MUHC Board. “The MUHC is proud of the pivotal role it plays in terms of patient care, teaching, research and technology assessment in Quebec and Canada, and we are confident that Dr. Gfeller has the skills and the experience required to ensure we maintain our leadership position in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.”
It goes without saying that the last two years have been challenging for the MUHC, and we are grateful to Martine Alfonso, who has provided us with a steady and solid leadership. Ms. Alfonso will maintain her position as Associate President and Executive Director.
“I feel fortunate to work with an experienced and talented team,” says Dr. Gfeller. “This is of great value to a new leader. I also know that I will benefit from Ms. Alfonso’s.” knowledge, insights and problem-solving capabilities.”
